MENERGA ThermoCond Type 34 pool hall units with two stage heat recovery at the East End Leisure Centre, Newcastle-upon-Tyne

The East End Leisure Pool was built as part of the regeneration of the Byker area in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The leisure pool water area is approximately 600m² and the water features include a wave machine and water slide. There is a 20x8m teaching pool in a separate pool hall.

Under winter design conditions (pool hall 30°C 55% rh; outdoors -5°C) the two stage heat recovery in the MENERGA ThemoCond type 34 pool hall units achieves a temperature efficiency of 80% thereby minimising the installed heating requirement and energy consumption.

The total supply air volume to the leisure pool is 57,000m³/h (15.9m³/s) from two MENERGA Type 34 units and a third special unit supplying warm air at low level under 12m high external windows.

A separate MENERGA type 34 unit conditions the teaching pool with a supply air volume of 9,500m³/h (2.6m³/s).

Low energy solvent direct coupled free running ventilator wheels with frequency controlled motors eliminate the dynamic pressure and drive losses associated with belt driven fans. Electricity consumption is therefore reduced by approximately 30% when compared with standard fan technology.

MENERGA DDC control accurately regulates pool hall temperature and humidity to ensure minimum energy consumption.
